Wired for sound! Not with our integrated awning and pergola sound systems

When having some friends over for a barbecue in the garden, there is nothing worse than having to relocate your expensive indoor sound system for the musical entertainment.

You worry about a sudden shower that could do untold damage to the electronics, someone tripping over trailing power cables or speaker wires, or the family dog knocking it over in a moment of over enthusiastic playfulness.

Bluetooth sound systems integrated into awnings and pergolas

With our superb integrated sound systems, your worries are over. Fitting neatly inside your awning or pergola, no longer will you have to be concerned about damaging the indoor sound system.

With the magic of Bluetooth, you can go totally wire free, so no more tripping hazards and the system can either be operated via the dedicated infra-red remote control that comes with this integrated sound system, or from an app on your smartphone.

Integration of sound coupled with awnings and pergolas

We all appreciate some quality downtime. Relaxing in the dappled shade of our pergola, or the more controlled shelter of an awning, but all too often, we must resort to wearing ear buds if we want to listen to our favourite tunes while we relax.

The problem with wearing ear buds is that you become detached from what else is going on around you. You won’t hear a knock at the door, missing that latest delivery or a visiting friend, and they can become quite uncomfortable after a short time.

With an integrated Bluetooth sound system fitted neatly inside your pergola or awning, you can sit, relax and listen to your music, without the need for ear buds or headphones.

Equestrian excellence comes to Harpenden

Between 1848 and 1914 the Harpenden common was a regular venue for horse racing. John Edwin Cussans, in his History of Hertfordshire in 1879, commented “Notwithstanding that these meetings are under the most unexceptional patronage as regards the Stewards, yet for two days in the year all the London pickpockets, sharpers and blackguards who happen to be out of gaol are permitted to make Harpenden their own and to make travelling in a first-class carriage on the Midland Railway a danger to men and an impossibility to ladies.” Despite the inherent dangers posed by the criminal element attending these events, the horse racing diary was always full and well attended by locals and patrons from further afield.

Harpenden common: A golf and cricket destination

The gentlemanly sport of golf has been played on Harpenden common since 1894 and it was at that time that Harpenden Golf Club was set up by a group of local people with the help and a financial contribution of five pounds from Sir John Bennet Lawes of Rothamsted Manor. The club moved to a new course at Hammonds End in 1931, at which time Harpenden Common Golf Club was formed by those who wanted to remain at the Common. In 1932 Bamville Cricket club was formed and shares part of the Common with the Golfers.

Harpenden becomes the centre for child care

In 1913 the National Children’s Home relocated to Harpenden with a large site at Highfield Oval which was to become the home to over two hundred children. The site had a print works, a carpenters’ and joiners’ shop, a bootmakers shop and a farm where the boys could be offered apprenticeships. As was common for the time, girls were mostly trained in domestic service with some being trained in sewing and office work. The Harpenden children’s home was run on this site until 1985. The site is now the head office of Youth with a Mission and international Christian missionary organisation.

During the Second World War, owing to the Blitz in London, Harpenden was used to evacuate children. However, Harpenden was not totally safe from air raids, as there were many air raid shelters. Some of these shelters are still present and may be used in the future for educational and emergency training purposes.
