Luxury Awnings and Pergolas in Hitchin

If there is one thing that we all seem to enjoy these days, it is sitting out in our gardens, enjoying the sunshine and the fresh air. Barbecues are a favourite British pastime, having friends and family gathered for some quality time together, with the added benefit of some delicious, barbecued food to make the gathering perfect. Unfortunately, the summer doesn’t last forever, and the days and evenings can become quite chilly, impacting on your outdoor time. Nobody enjoys sitting outside in the cold, and as the weather becomes autumnal, the cold seems to bring a dampness in the air too, making it even more unpleasant sitting outside. Fortunately, this doesn’t have to be the case if you invest in a good quality awning heater.

So why not continue to enjoy your time outside all year round with an infrared, short wave awning heater?

Outdoor heaters are mostly seen at public houses, particularly since the indoor smoking ban was introduced in the United Kingdom, but they have proved their worth in this setting. They are more than capable of keeping customers warm whilst outside, but their use has now expanded to general outdoor seating areas at pubs and not just in the smoking areas.

Pubs and restaurants have also taken the opportunity to have awnings and pergolas installed. This increases their seating capacity considerably, but in the colder months, the gardens were left virtually deserted, apart from the die-hard smokers. Outdoor awning and pergola heaters allow pubs to cater for their customers even during the colder months and you can replicate this usage in your own garden with a suitable patio, awning or pergola heater.

We advise on the best awning heater for you

If you’re looking for a heater that will work well with your awning or pergola, we can help. We can install most awning and pergola heaters easily over your patio or wherever you have your awning or pergola situated. Our awning and pergola heaters fill your outdoor area with a glorious warmth from above.

An awning heater is a good investment for anyone with an awning or pergola who wants to utilise this space all year round. Awning and pergola heaters often come in a neat size, many are quite economical to run with a low energy consumption and long-lasting components for a long service life.

Dining and entertaining outdoors should be comfortable no matter what time of year you do it and an awning or pergola heater is a fantastic way to provide gentle, consistent heat that complements whole experience. An awning or pergola heater brings comfort right to the table, meaning you can enjoy longer periods of time outside, enjoying the fresh air while you eat or entertain.

Some places in Hitchin to visit

With the school holidays just around the corner, you may be looking for somewhere to go that will keep the kids amused for a few hours. Fortunately, Hitchin can cater for the younger and older kids with some great attractions to while away a few hours.

Standalone Farm in Hitchin

This fantastic family day out is just a stone’s throw from Hitchin.

Standalone farm showcases all your favourite farmyard animals, and organises absolutely loads of activities.

Your children will be able to get up close and personal with cows, shire horses, sheep, goats, ponies, pigs and even alpacas. The Hitchin farm is a firm favourite with schools organising day trips and parents alike.

Here you can watch a milking demonstration, or groom a pony, you may even want to feed some pigs or just enjoy taking a tractor trailer ride around the farm.

As Standalone is a working farm, the seasons will bring different experiences too. For example, in spring and early summer you could be bottle feeding lambs and baby goats, while birds of prey and reptile handling demonstrations take place regularly too.

There is a lovely cafeteria for a coffee or bite to eat during your time there, as well as a gift shop and play area for the kids to enjoy.

Barton Hills National Nature Reserve

The northernmost parts of the Chilterns rise just west of Hitchin, at the Barton Hills.

The grassland covering these stunning downs grow lots of rare wildflowers that come into flower in spring and summer.

This part of the Hitchin countryside is well known for its many varieties of butterfly, like grizzled skippers, marbled white and chalkhill blue.

Beautiful Dartmoor ponies are allowed onto the hills in summer to graze on the lush green grass. When walking to the bottom of one of the hillsides, you will find a spring that feeds a chalk stream. With crystal clear water, rolling hills and nature all around, you could forget that you are so close to Hitchin town centre.

St Mary’s Church in Hitchin

Hitchin’s parish church is actually the largest in Hertfordshire and is much larger than a town the size of Hitchin would have needed in Medieval times. The sheer size of the church illustrates just how important Hitchin was to the Christian church when this place of worship was first built.

The size and grand nature of the church is also partly owed to the wealth generated by the wool trade in Hitchin during the 14th and 15th centuries.

The majority of this magnificent church building dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries, but the roots of the church go back much further to Saxon times.

The tower for example is from 1190, while a Saxon church built in the 7th century and expanded up to the 10th century was discovered beneath the current church in 1911 when a new floor was being laid down.

Inside the church the baptismal font, carved in the 15th century, has figures of the apostles at the base that were damaged by Puritan soldiers during the Civil War. The pulpit is also from the 15th century.
